Member Comments Requested re: Proposed Rule to Prohibit Pest Control Devices that Emit Regular, Continual Sound

Because of complaints from three members about the emission of sound from an electronic pest control device in an adjacent yard that is disturbing their peace and comfort, GHI’s Board of Directors proposes to establish the following rule:

“Pest control devices emitting regular, continual sound, are not permitted in yards or in locations where they may be heard by neighbors”.

Due to its low decibel level, operation of this type of device does not violate the City of Greenbelt’s Noise Ordinance; however, it emits sound at regular intervals throughout a 24-hour day that can be heard by neighboring members. GHI’s Buildings Committee reviewed materials regarding the efficacy of electronic pest control devices; the brief study indicated that these devices are not effective in controlling pests.

Members may submit written comments about the proposed rule to the Manager’s Office, 1 Hamilton Place, Greenbelt, MD 20770 or  send e-mails to mgmtoffice@ghi.coop by Friday May 15, 2020.
